Getting Started with Integration of Active Content

What is an Email Service Provider?

An Email Service Provider (ESP) is a platform or software that enables businesses to create, send, and manage email marketing campaigns to their target audience. ESPs allow marketers to design and deliver personalized, dynamic content through automated email workflows while ensuring compliance with industry regulations like CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and CASL.

An ESP acts as an intermediary between the business and its email recipients, ensuring that emails are delivered efficiently and securely.

Procedure to Embed Active Content

Embedding Active Content in emails enables marketers to deliver personalized content—such as product recommendations or customer-specific offers—at open time, in real time. Active Content acts as a delivery mechanism within emails, it fetches and displays the right content while maintaining scalability, security, and performance.

The embedding process involves generating Active Content HTML code block, downloading the light weight HTML code block that serves as a dynamic container, mapping dynamic parameters, and embedding the HTML code block into ESP’s email template.

Setting Up and Configuring the Active Content Platform

  • Account and API Setup: Set up an account on the ADA Active Content platform if you don’t have one yet.

  • Data Integration: Ensure to connect Active Content to your product catalog, customer database, or recommendation engine. This typically involves mapping data fields (For example Product ID, Customer ID, price, inventory status) to ensure the platform can pull the correct data for personalization. For example, you might integrate with a CRM like Salesforce or an e-commerce platform like Shopify to sync customer and product data.

  • Access to Email Editor: You should have access to your ESP (For example ADA Journey, Mailchimp, Klaviyo) or marketing platform (For example Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Marketo) Email editor to design and configure email campaigns and embed the Active Content HTML code into your email campaign.
